Post Surgery Update

Thank you to everyone for all your prayers this week and for those living at the sem, thanks for your kind offer of meals!

The surgery went well and I was discharge on Thursday as anticipated. I now have stitches around my ear from where they took tissue to graft onto the eardrum. And my ear is packed with dressing, to avoid any infections. I’m not really in any pain… it is just more awkward and uncomfortable, but I’m coping!

Next Friday, 1^st June, I will be going back to have the stitches out. The week after, the dressing will be removed and then another 2 weeks after that, they will check my hearing.

In the meantime, I have to keep my ear completely dry, which means no washing my hair and I’ll be having baths for a while.

My coordination is a little off at the moment and my mobility is slow and steady, but I’m coping okay. It’s more frustrating than anything and I can’t wait to have the dressing removed!

Thank you again for all your prayers. Please continue to pray, especially for my frustration. A praise point is Vaughn, who has been and is a blessing through this all. He is very supportive and doing all he can to make me feel comfortable. Please pray for his patience when he is helpless to actually ease my frustrations (annoying for both he and I)!

Just another quick update on how things are going in our lives!

Fifth Wedding Anniversary

My how time flies! Vaughn and I celebrated our 5^th wedding anniversary on 11^th May. He made a delicious lamb roast for me, which had a beautiful aroma as I walked in the door after coming home from work! One of Vaughn’s signature dishes is beef or lamb roast and I wasn’t disappointed when I took my first bite!

After dinner, we had an easy night in front of the TV, watching my favourite movie, “The Notebook”. If you haven’t seen it, gotta watch it – a real tear jerker, but even guys have commented about how good it is!

Visit to Melbourne

Vaughn and I had a wonderful trip back to Melbourne, catching up with family and friends. Unfortunately, although 9 days seems a long time, when you are actually there, it goes by quickly and you realise you don’t have as much time as you thought you would! So I apologise to those I wasn’t able to catch up with. The thing that kept me busiest was organising my 30^th birthday party. I’ve attached a couple of pictures from the afternoon.

It was also wonderful to see Tess (my dog) while I was there. She now lives with Phil (older brother), but we brought her to Vaughn’s parents while we stayed there for a couple days. Here are some pictures of her! There are also some pictures of Vaughn’s dog, Angus.

Perforated Eardrum

While in Melbourne, I found out that I had been booked in for ear surgery THIS week (Wednesday, 23^rd), so that’s a little scary. I’ll be admitted tomorrow (Tuesday), so that I don’t miss an appointment with the anaesthetist… otherwise I wouldn’t have an opportunity to see him and my surgery would be cancelled. As I’m a public patient, who knows how long I would have to wait for a spot to come up again! All going well, I will be discharged on Thursday. I’ve never spent one night in hospital, let alone two, so it will be a weird experience for me. If the surgery is a success, I should start to regain my hearing over the next two months.
