I was born and have lived in Australia my whole life, but I also have a US passport and a passion for all things American… especially food and my family!

Prodical Son

The prodical son (cat i.e. Nemo) has returned! He came home at about 1:30am last night/this morning. I don't know where he has been or what he has been doing... I just know he is home! I'm still in shock!

He's very clingy (even more so than before) and is more interested in being near Vaughn or me than he is eating, even though he is still very hungry. It will be interesting to see how he is when Vaughn has to go to classes.

He went missing last Wednesday during the day, when he didn't come home for a snack, whinging at the door every couple of minutes... now a week later, when I had finally started to come around to the "fact" that he wasn't coming home, Vaughn walks into the bedroom at 1:30am holding Nemo. Obviously it took me a couple of seconds to really register, but I jumped out of bed quick smart to go cuddle!

He's curled up in a tiny ball on the futon here in the study now... I think he will be sleeping off his adventure for a little while, in between getting as many cuddles as he can and eating.

I know he's "only" a pet, but thank you for everyone's kind thoughts and prayers over the past week... he certainly has our hearts!

My mummy says...

My mummy says I should stand up straight... so I took her advice and took another picture of my belly. Is that better, Mum? :o)

I'll have to admit, the picture is much better when I have much better posture! Thanks for the tip! Let's see if I remember for next time!

The Cat

With all the excitement of the baby and preparing for his/her arrival, we have had some sadness in our lives this past week. Our beloved Nemo went missing on Wednesday and we haven't seen him since. I don't think he has run away as he's too clingy to us for that, which means something more tragic has happened. It's hard to accept that he won't be coming home as we don't actually know what has happened to him. I constantly expect him to be at the door when I get home from work... hoping, but knowing I have to let go.

He'll be greatly missed, especially:

- following Vaughn around campus and meowing when he goes into class, until he comes out.
- following me across the tennis court, when I walk to the bus stop in the mornings and having to take him back home, inside, so he doesn't follow me all the way to work!
- cuddles on the couch while watching TV.
- scratching his belly, like a dog.
- sneaking cuddles under the sheets with me as I fall asleep.
- being the most beautiful natured cat I've ever know, who made everyone on campus fall in love with him, especially us.

The Chair

Finally, I have my glider chair! It's not the one I originally wanted, but it's just as good and I'm very happy! The nursery is now complete with all the bigger furniture items and it's very satisfying. There's a lot of smaller items that we also need to buy... you know, nappies (we're going to attempt cloth!), clothes, more linen, lotions, wipes etc, but we'll buy those things over time and I've been warned that you get given a heap as well so you end up with too much!

Anyway, back to the chair. I love just sitting in the nursery, gliding and looking around. I've taken to doing my cross stitch in there, although I haven't worked on that for awhile. Even Vaughn's been known to go in there and read, but he said the gliding action and reading at the same time made him sick! It's a peaceful room and I can't wait for little Bubs to make his/her entrance and have it become his/her room, as opposed to just "the nursery". Perhaps not so peaceful after that, but still a very special room.

The Baby

You've all been patiently waiting for baby belly pictures and I'm sorry for the delay, but because I've only just started popping out, there hasn't really been a lot to show! But now, drum roll... here it is!

It's not the most flattering picture of my face, but it's me... and the baby belly... all the same!

Bubs is moving around heaps now. I think Vaughn's favourite time of the day is actually at night, when I'm sleeping and Bubs is moving around heaps. Vaughn loves cuddling me, with his hand on my belly, just feeling him/her move around. It's really sweet!

Of course I have been feeling Bubs move around from the inside, but last week, I was lying in bed and had my hand on my belly when s/he moved and I actually felt the movement with my hand, which was very different... it was amazing! It's beautiful being able to feel Bubs move now. It certainly makes all the more real, as does actually having a belly... as well as perfecting the waddle, which has started in the last week!

I'm still not as big as many women at the same stage as me, but I'm feeling big enough that I have to roll off the couch or bed (sometimes Vaughn gives me a helpful hoist!) and it's quite hard to put shoes and socks on... finding the right angle!

As of today, I am 30 weeks... only 10 weeks to go... wow, times flies! Only 4 weeks left of work and counting. Baby is going to be here before we know it! It's very exciting!
